Why is it so difficult for so many to achieve their dreams and goals? Take a look at the following list of ten reasons and see if one of them is preventing YOU from achieving what you most desire.

1) Not Having a Goal

You can’t achieve your goal if you do not have one. Have a goal gives you purpose and direction. If you don’t know where you are going, how will know how to get there? Goals act as your life map. They chart your course and tell you when you have arrived at your destination.

You needn’t worry about how you will achieve your goals. Simply concern yourself with the process of setting short term, medium term, and long term goals.

A written goal is infinitely more likely to be achieved that one that is merely kept in your thoughts or spoken aloud. Write your goals down and review them consistently.

2) Choosing Goals That Are Not Your Own

When setting your goals, be sure they get you excited. Your source of inspiration must come from within your own self rather than any kind of outside source, no matter how much you love, trust or respect that source. Your goals must get your juices flowing and your juices flowing. You want to feel excited butterflies in your stomach when you set your goal.

3) Setting Goals That Are Too Small

Small, easily achieved goals are not motivating. Remember that no dream is too big. Take time to sit down and think about how you would ultimately like to spend your life and what you’d like to be remembered for when you have moved on from this life. Make a list of things you want to achieve. Dream big, be bold.

4) Lack of Focus

Don’t let circumstances push you off track. Live your life by design, not by happenstance. Read your goals numerous times daily, specifically at night before sleeping and again as soon as you rise. Post them at your work space, on your fridge and in the bathroom so that your mind learns to focus on them continually.

Visual people may find it helpful to create a dream board, which consists of pictures that represent the things you want to achieve. Place your dream board in a prominent place and view it often. On the same note, remove items from your workspace that tend to remove your focus. For example, put the bills somewhere else so that they do not consume your thoughts while you are working. Remember that fear is what you encounter when you take your eyes off the goal.

5) No Clear Vision

Your purpose for wanting to achieve your goals must be bigger than yourself, bigger than any amount of money, or any luxury. Rather than telling yourself that you would like more money, ask yourself what is more money able to create for you in your life. Perhaps what you really want is debt relief, better education for yourself or your family, the ability to visit family living abroad when ever you choose, or more time to support charitable causes. These deeper reasons must provide you with a clear vision of where your goals will take you and why you want to achieve them.

6) Lack of Belief

We have all made mistakes. The real trick is to learn from our mistakes without letting them taint our perception of future possibilities. You must believe that you can be successful no matter what your past fallings may have been. Failure is nothing more than learning. So learn, grow, and move forward believing that you can. You certainly would not drive a car while staring in the rear view mirror! How can you direct your life while dwelling on past mistakes? Believe in what can and will be.

7) Attitude

Jim Rome has said, “With the right attitude human beings can move mountains. With the wrong attitudes they can be crushed by the smallest grain of sand.” Let your spirit never be broken, despite the trials and difficulties that will inevitably come.

A positive attitude MUST be accompanied by humility, openness, and a coachability. Four of the most dangerous words are, “I already know that.” Be open to receiving training, to receiving success, and to receiving the rewards of success. Be grateful for the help offered you. Be thankful for your successes and your mentors.

8) Procrastination Massively successful people take massive action. Rarely will you meet wealthy people that are accustomed to laziness and procrastination. Achievers are Doers and Doers are Achievers. One way to keep your tasks current is to use the Success Six System. Each night you must choose six tasks that you need to complete the following day. List them in order of importance and write them on a 3×5 index card. Keep the card by your bed and review it upon rising. Complete task one as soon as possible and do not move on to task 2 until you have.

9) Quitting Too Soon

You are unique. Your goals will be unique. Avoid the temptation of comparing yourself to others who have achieved the success you work for. Be aware that every successful person has paid their dues in one form or another and nobody has a free ride to success. Are you willing to stick it out thru thick and thin to get what you really want? You must be in the game for the long haul to achieve lasting success. Quitting or giving up before your efforts have time to bear fruit will only beget future failure and disappointment. Goal setting is a marathon experience, not a sprint. Pace yourself accordingly.

10) Failure to Measure Progress

When a Space Craft leaves earth and is heading for the moon, they make sure they have a very clear map before they leave! I addition, they constantly measure and verify their position in relation to their starting point and their goal, making numerous course corrections and adjustments along the way. It is the same when reaching our personal goals. Our Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals must be clearly monitored and measured. How else will we know when we’ve achieved our goal?
